Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], August 30: Marathi filmmaker Swapna Waghmare Joshi recently faced a shocking theft at her sixth-floor apartment in Mumbai. The arrested suspect admitted to stealing money from the filmmaker's flat to purchase drugs.
The thief climbed into the sixth-floor flat of the film director's home in Andheri (W) and made off with Rs 6,000. A 22-year-old man, Aniket Gounder, was arrested in connection with the case on August 28.
According to the police, the suspect first scaled the security grill to reach the fifth floor, then proceeded to the sixth floor, escaping via the same route on August 25. The entire incident was recorded by CCTV cameras installed in Joshi's flat.
The film director's cat noticed the intruder and began making noise, which alerted the director's daughter and son-in-law, who were sleeping in another room. Upon hearing the cat's cries, they woke up and shouted, "Thief! Thief!" The commotion caused the thief to flee. Before escaping, he managed to steal Rs 6,000, according to Mumbai police.
An official stated that, with the help of CCTV footage, the police identified the suspect. DCP Raj Tilak Roshan oversaw the investigation team, led by Inspector Jaywant Shinde, who arrested the suspect in Kapaswadi, Versova, about 2 km from Joshi's residence.
The police informed that during interrogation, the suspect admitted to using the stolen money to buy drugs. The accused is a known drug addict.
